<p>John M. Sweeney, 87, Route 1 Edgerton, prominent Edgerton civic leader and real estate and insurance man, died Friday, Nov. 24, after a short illness</p>
<p>Mr. Sweeney was the son of a pioneer area family. He was born Oct. 18, 1874, in the town of Porter where he was a life long resident. He was the last of 13 children.</p>
<p>He was married in 1904 to Margaret McCarthy of Edgerton.  She died in 1950.  In 1956 he  married Mae King of Edgerton.                 </p>
<p>Mr. Sweeney was a retired farmer and was still active in insurance and real estate business. He served many years on the Rock county board and on various school boards. He was a member of St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic church and its Holy Name Society. Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Chapman, Evansville; Mrs. Don Letendre Jr., Madison; Mrs. M. J. Roehm, Elmhurst, III and Mrs. Carl Neberman, LaCrosse; four sons, John M. Jr., Delavan; J. B., Houston,Tex.; Lyie,  Des Moines,  la., and Roger M., Edgerton; 25 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.</p>
<p>Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic Church, the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.The rosary was recited at the Ellingson funeral home Sunday at 8 p.m.   Burial was in St.Joseph cemetery.</p>
<p>Pallbearers were John Neberman, Gordon  Chapman, Roger Chapman, Michael Sweeney,  Thomas Neberman and Richard Chapman.</p>

<p>Funeral For Well-Known Tobacco Dealer Held From St. Joseph&#8217;s Cathol.ic Church Thrusday.</p>
<p>Charles E. Sweeney, 77, a very well known tobacco dealer in southern Wisconsin, died, Tuesday morning, May 6, at 5:30 o&#8217;clock at his home after a five months illness. Mr Sweeney was born February 29, 1864, in the twon of Porter and was the son of Miles and Mary Sweeney. HIs early life was spent in Porter township. He had been engaged in the leaf tobacco business in this city since 1885, and had represented the tobacco firm of H. Fendrich, Inc. of Edwardsville, Ind, since 1919. Mr Sweeney also owned several farms in the vicinty of Edgerton and took great interest in their operation. He possessed exceptional wit and personality, and was a friend of everyone. On June 5, 1889, he was united in mariage to Miss Mary Ellen Stafford in St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic church in this city. The ceremony was performed by Father Boe. In 1939  Mr and Mrs Sweeney celebrated their golden wedding. They have been residents of this city for the past 44 years.</p>
<p>Surviving relatives are his widow; two sons, J. E. and Charles V. Sweeney, local attorneys, who have also been associated with their father in the tobacco business under the name of C.E. Sweeney and Sons; one daughter, Mrs Linton Austin, Boulder, Colo; two brothers, Hugh and John Sweeney, and one sister, Mrs. Kate Hyland, this city, and several grandchildren.</p>
<p>Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 8:30 o&#8217;clock in the home and at 9 o&#8217;clock  in St Joseph&#8217;s Catholic church. Interment was made in St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic cemetery, with Father Raymond Foren officiating. The pall bearers were Messrs George, Paul and Miles Sweeney, John Hyland, Matt Roherty and Percy Hubbell.</p>

<p>James F. Sweeney, 77, of Sheldon, a former O&#8217;Brien county supervisor, passed away last Friday morning at 3:30 o&#8217;clock at his home at 1009 east Ninth street, after a four days illness with pneumonia.</p>
<p>James F. Sweeney was born September 10, 1861, in Rock county, Wisconsin, and passed away April 14, 1939, aged 77 years, 7 months and 4 days. He received his schooling in the country schools in the county of his birth.</p>
<p>October 5, 1886, he was married at Edgerton, Wis., to Miss Margaret Murphy and they lived in Dane county, Wisconsin, until 1892, when they moved to Sanborn. He had since made his home in O&#8217;Brien county, where he engaged in farming. He had been a resident of Sheldon many years and served as a county supervisor 11 years. Mr. Sweeney was a member of St. Patrick&#8217;s Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus lodge.</p>
<p>Seven children were born to Mr. Sweeney, one daughter and one son passing away. Mrs. Sweeney passed away October 18, 1920  and on May 24, 1924, he was married to Mrs. Mary Shea Addy, who survives.</p>
<p>Besides the widow, he is survived by five children: M. L. Sweeney of Jeffers, Minn., James Lloyd Sweeney of Milwaukee, Wis., John Lorenzo Sweeney of New Rockford, Ill., (Ruth) Mrs. Leo Harrington of Sanborn and (Golde) Mrs. Leslie M. White of Sheldon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Kate Hyland of Edgerton, Wis., and four brothers, Dan F. Sweeney of Milwaukee and Charles E., Hugh T. and John M. of Edgerton.</p>
<p>Funeral services were held Monday morning, April 17, at 9 o&#8217;clock at St. Patrick&#8217;s Catholic church, with Rev. C. P. Sweeney of Fort Dodge, a nephew of the deceased, as celebrant of the Requiem  High mass, assisted by Rev.<br />
George Cooke and Rev. David McGoey.  Music was furnished by the choir with Mrs. Peter Pohlen at the organ. Pallbearers were Frank Hurd, Ed Bohan, J. B. O&#8217;Donnell, Frank Dougherty, Ray MGrath and Frank Burns, with burial in St. Patrick&#8217;s cemetery.</p>

<p>DANIEL SWEENEY DIES IN MILWAUKEE</p>
<p>Daniel Sweeney, 81, a resident of Milwaukee for the past 50 years, died Wednesday afternoon, July24, at one o&#8217;clock at a Milwaukee hospital. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sons; three brothers, Charles E. and and Hugh this city, and John Sweeney, route 1, city and a sister, Mrs. Kate Hyland, also of this city. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o&#8217;clock in St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic Church, this city. Interment will be made in St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic cemetery, with Rev. Raymond foren officating.</p>

In 1873 he became a member of the above named firm, and since 1874 has had charge of the business. <strong>In October, 1863, he married Anna Miller, daughter of Campbell Miller.</strong> They have two daughters &#8212; Edith and Maggie.
